About the Author

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a British writer best known for his creation of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. He was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and worked as a physician before turning to writing as his primary career.
In 1887, Doyle published his first Sherlock Holmes novel, "A Study in Scarlet," which introduced the world to the iconic detective and his faithful companion, Dr. John Watson. The character of Sherlock Holmes quickly became immensely popular, and Doyle went on to write three more novels and fifty-six short stories featuring the detective.
Apart from his Sherlock Holmes stories, Doyle wrote historical novels, science fiction, plays, poetry, and non-fiction works on a wide range of subjects. Despite his success as a writer, Doyle was frustrated by the overshadowing of his other literary endeavors by the popularity of Sherlock Holmes.
In addition to his literary pursuits, Doyle was involved in various social and political causes. He advocated for justice reform, campaigned against the exploitation of indigenous peoples in the Congo, and supported the development of spiritualism, though he remained skeptical of many aspects of it. Doyle was knighted in 1902 for his services to literature. He died on July 7, 1930, in Crowborough, East Sussex, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the most celebrated writers in the mystery and detective fiction genre.
