About the Author

Oscar Wilde was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet born on October 16, 1854, in Dublin, Ireland. He was one of the most prominent literary figures of the late 19th century, known for his wit, flamboyant style, and sharp social commentary.
Wilde attended Trinity College, Dublin, and later Oxford University, where he excelled in his studies and gained a reputation for his intellectual brilliance and love of aestheticism. After graduating, he moved to London, where he became a prominent figure in literary and social circles.
Wilde's works include the novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray," which explores themes of vanity, decadence, and the pursuit of beauty, as well as numerous plays, such as "Lady Windermere's Fan," "An Ideal Husband," and "The Importance of Being Earnest." His plays are celebrated for their sparkling wit, clever dialogue, and satirical portrayal of Victorian society.
Despite his literary success, Wilde's personal life was marked by scandal and tragedy. In 1895, he was arrested and convicted of "gross indecency" for his homosexual relationships, which were illegal at the time. Wilde served two years of hard labor in prison, during which his health deteriorated.
After his release from prison, Wilde lived in exile in France, where he wrote "The Ballad of Reading Gaol," a powerful poem reflecting on his experiences in prison. He died on November 30, 1900, at the age of 46, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most brilliant and controversial figures in literary history. Wilde's works continue to be studied and admired for their wit, humor, and insight into the human condition.
